Pazo de Tor, Manor house in Tor, Monforte de Lemos, Spain
Pazo de Tor is a manor house with two stories and a U-shaped layout, with the upper floor holding noble quarters and the lower floor containing service areas. The structure was built in the late 18th century and shapes the village image with its classical architecture.
The Garza family established a first residence at this site in the 14th century, but the current building was constructed in the late 18th century as a new structure. Upon this foundation, each generation made changes to house the family and their growing collections.
The manor functions as an ethnological museum since 2006 and displays furnished rooms with historical objects and collections that reflect life in past eras. The spaces give an impression of how the family lived here daily and what items were important to them.
The location is about fifteen minutes by car from Monforte de Lemos center and is easily reachable. Tours are available by appointment, and the museum is open to visitors on most days, closed only on Mondays.
The museum houses rare musical instruments from the 18th and 19th centuries, including a claviorgan by Longman and Broderip and a pianoforte by Collard and Collard. These valuable pieces give an impression of the musical life of the wealthy family.
