El Montgròs, Mountain summit in Sant Pere de Ribes and Canyelles, Spain
El Montgròs is a mountain summit in the Garraf region composed of limestone and dolostone formations that create its distinctive geological character. The rocky composition is clearly visible across the slopes and exposed faces of the terrain.
The mountain experienced substantial changes after a forest fire in May 1997, which affected large sections of vegetation on the Sant Pere de Ribes slopes. The fire shaped the current appearance of the landscape and continues to influence how the terrain looks today.
Local residents maintain a tradition of raising the Catalan flag on September 11 and placing a nativity scene near Christmas time at the mountain peak.
The hiking route to this summit starts from the Ribes sports area and follows the GR 92.4 trail through the landscape. Bring plenty of water and wear sturdy footwear, as the terrain can be steep and rocky in sections.
Communication antennas at the summit transmit radio and television signals across the Penedès region, making it a central broadcasting point.
