Monasterio de El Abrojo, Franciscan friary in Laguna de Duero, Spain.

The Monasterio de El Abrojo stands near the Duero River, featuring stone walls, a triumphal arch entrance, and remnants of a royal residence.

Pedro de Villacreces established this monastery in 1415, which later became a retreat for Castilian royalty, including Isabel I and Carlos I.

The monastery played a central role in the Franciscan reform movement and maintained connections with Spanish royal families through dedicated living quarters.

The remaining structures include the ground floor of the former monastery, a pond, and several fountains that served the religious community.

A devastating fire in 1624 and subsequent flooding in 1788 led to multiple reconstructions, supported by substantial funding from King Felipe IV.
