Uixó Castle

Uixó Castle is a medieval fortress perched on a hilltop in La Vall d'Uixó with remaining sections of defensive walls, water storage cisterns, and scattered ceramic fragments across the site. The ruins reveal the basic layout of the original defensive structure and how water was managed.

Islamic architects built this fortress in the 10th century, and it later served as a strategic location during the Spanish Succession War. The site demonstrates how military positions remained important across different historical periods.

The fortress shows a blend of Islamic and Christian building techniques that reflect how different cultures met in this region. Visitors can see this cultural meeting point in the remaining wall structures.

The fortress sits about 3 kilometers north of town and is reachable through several hiking paths including the Anogueret trail. You should wear comfortable shoes and explore the paths in dry conditions.

The northern wall section has an intact patrol walkway with original parapets, showing how guards watched over the surrounding lands. These details help visitors understand the everyday security of the place.
