Dominion Theatre, Art deco theatre in Camden, England
The Dominion Theatre is a venue in Camden, London, with a pale limestone front and an interior currently holding 2163 seats. The design blends Renaissance elements with late twenties style, arranged across several levels.
The theatre opened in 1929 following plans by William and Thomas Ridley Milburn and initially served as both a cinema and a stage. Later the program shifted toward stage plays and musical shows.
The name recalls the British Commonwealth, a connection reflected in the formal design of the building. The house served as a venue for royal evening events, with members of the royal family sitting in the audience and watching musical performances.
The entrance sits at the corner of Tottenham Court Road and New Oxford Street, centrally reachable with several Underground lines nearby. For drinks before the show or during the interval, a champagne bar and a separate lounge are available.
The site once formed part of the Horse Shoe Brewery, which became known in 1814 when a tank ruptured and thousands of gallons of beer poured through the streets. Several people died in the accident, now remembered as the London Beer Flood.
