Ascott House, Country house museum in Aylesbury Vale, England.
Ascott House is a Victorian country residence in Aylesbury Vale, England, open to the public as a museum. The parkland includes formal gardens with clipped hedges, fountains, and statues from antiquity.
George Devey designed the estate in the late 19th century for a member of the Rothschild family. After the Second World War, the National Trust took over management and opened the collection to visitors.
The rooms display collections of Dutch master paintings, Chinese porcelain, and gilded furniture from French workshops. Visitors also see rare carpets and wall hangings gathered over decades.
The house opens from March through October, with guided tours on weekdays and free exploration on weekends. The gardens cover a large area, and sturdy footwear helps on paths during wet weather.
A large sundial garden uses clipped yews to recreate the design of a Roman timepiece, visible from the upper floor. The planting shows the date in Latin numerals and shifts slightly with the seasons.
