Asham Wood

Asham Wood is a protected woodland in Somerset featuring limestone formations and diverse tree species spread across deep valleys and plateaus. The site encompasses various habitats that support different plants and animals throughout its terrain.

The woodland received official designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1963, establishing formal protection for its natural features. This recognition has shaped its management and conservation approach over the decades.

Local conservation groups regularly monitor fifty installed dormouse boxes throughout the forest to track and support the native wildlife population.

The woodland is accessible via maintained paths that wind through the valleys and connect different sections of the terrain. Parking is available near the entrance areas for visitor use.

A permanent stream flows through the woodland and leads to Chantry Pond located in the eastern section. This water course creates a distinctive landscape feature that divides the forest into different zones.
