Brockhampton Estate, Medieval manor estate in Herefordshire, England.
Brockhampton Estate is a large property in Herefordshire with a timber-framed manor house surrounded by a moat and a restored gatehouse dating to the 1500s. The grounds contain woodlands, streams, and traditional orchards that can be explored along its various paths.
The manor with its medieval roots was donated to the National Trust in 1946 by Colonel John Lutley after his family had maintained the estate across more than 20 generations. This long continuity of family ownership shaped the property as it appears today.
The estate takes its name from the nearby village of Brockhampton and reflects through its layout and features how prosperous families lived in this region. The preserved structures and landscape tell the story of daily life from another era.
The estate offers designated parking areas and wheelchair-accessible paths throughout its grounds, making it easy to navigate different sections. Visiting on warmer days allows you to fully enjoy the gardens and woodland walks.
The traditional orchard hosts annual wassailing ceremonies, an old ritual where people bless apple trees and sing ancient songs. This custom continues to be practiced as a way to wish for luck and a good harvest in the coming years.
