Compton Verney, 18th-century country mansion in Kineton, England.
Compton Verney is an 18th-century country mansion set within expansive grounds north of the B4086 road. The estate features a lake, manicured gardens, and outdoor sculptures, while the house itself displays neoclassical interior design throughout its rooms.
The house was built in 1714 by Richard Verney and redesigned internally in the 1760s by the celebrated architect Robert Adam. This renovation was commissioned by John Peyto-Verney, who owned the property at that time.
The art collection reflects the interests of its owners through Neapolitan paintings and British portraiture displayed throughout the rooms. The folk art holdings introduce a different artistic perspective alongside these formal collections.
Check opening hours before your visit as these can vary throughout the year and during special events. The grounds are expansive, so wear comfortable shoes if you plan to explore both the building and the surrounding land.
The estate contains an 18th-century ice house that once preserved food during the warm months before modern refrigeration existed. This small structure offers visitors a window into how daily life functioned in previous centuries.
