Cube Microplex, Volunteer-run cinema in Bristol, England
Cube Microplex is an event venue and cinema with a 108-seat screening room that hosts over 350 events each year. The program includes film screenings, live performances, and community gatherings for different audiences and interests.
The building was constructed in 1916 as workshops for Bristol Deaf Centre. In 1964, local theater enthusiasts took over the space and transformed it into a performance venue.
The venue works as a community cinema focused on independent films, hosting live music and local gatherings regularly. Visitors experience a strong sense of shared purpose through screenings and events that bring people together.
The venue offers special screenings for parents with babies and operates a bar serving local products during all scheduled events. Visitors should plan ahead since certain films and shows can sell out quickly due to high demand.
Volunteers from the venue travel internationally to set up temporary cinemas in unusual locations. They have already installed screenings in a Cornish tin mine and in areas affected by disasters.
