Devizes Castle, Norman castle in Devizes, England
The current Devizes Castle features stone mullioned windows, detailed archways, oak flooring, and spiral staircases across multiple floors of living space.
Bishop Osmund constructed the first castle around 1080, which burned in 1113 and was rebuilt in stone by Bishop Roger of Salisbury by 1120.
The castle's name originates from Medieval Latin 'castrum ad divisas', marking its location at the meeting point of three separate manors.
The Victorian-era castle, designed by architect Henry Goodridge from Bath, stands on the site of the original medieval fortification.
The castle served as a prison for notable figures including Robert Curthose, the eldest son of William the Conqueror, and King John of England.
