Devonshire Collection of Period Costume, Costume collection in Totnes, England
The Devonshire Collection of Period Costume contains clothing items for men, women, and children from the 17th century to the present day.
Until 2025, the collection resides in Bogan House, a Tudor merchant building on High Street, before moving to the University of Falmouth's Institute.
The collection includes five silk gowns from 1760-1785, embroidered men's waistcoats with metal thread, and printed textiles from notable designers.
The museum plans to reopen for a final exhibition in 2024 before relocating its entire collection to ensure continued public access through displays.
Among the oldest items in the collection stands a pair of kid gloves from 1650, featuring wide gauntlets and silver embroidery.
