Crowne Plaza Glasgow, High-rise hotel in Finnieston, Scotland
Crowne Plaza Glasgow is a 17-floor hotel on the north bank of the River Clyde in central Glasgow, Scotland, built in the International Style with a glass curtain wall exterior. It offers guest rooms on multiple levels, along with meeting and event spaces that face the waterfront.
The building opened in 1989 under the name Forum Hotel, at a time when the Clyde waterfront was undergoing major redevelopment after decades of industrial decline. It joined the InterContinental Hotels Group in 2005 and was renamed Crowne Plaza Glasgow.
The hotel sits along the Clyde waterfront and serves as a familiar landmark for anyone arriving in the city centre from the west. Its glass facade catches the light from the river, making it easy to spot from the pedestrian paths along the bank.
The hotel is within easy walking distance of Glasgow city centre, making it convenient for exploring the main streets and riverside paths on foot. Inside, a glass-sided elevator runs through the building and gives a clear view of the interior floors as you travel up or down.
The hotel skips the 13th floor entirely, jumping from 12 to 14 in the elevator panel, so the top floor is labeled 16 even though the building has only 15 occupied levels. Most guests only notice when they look closely at the buttons inside the lift.
