Forge Dam Park encompasses 49 acres of land with a rectangular layout, bordered by Quiet Lane, Whiteley Lane, and Ivy Cottage Lane.
The site originated as an industrial center in 1765 when Thomas Boulsover established a forge, utilizing water power for manufacturing cutlery and metal products.
The park includes the Forge Dam Cafe, housed in a relocated Walkley Methodist Hall building, which received recognition in Pulp's song Wickerman.
Sheffield City Council maintains several walking paths throughout the park, connecting it to the Sheffield Round Walk and offering multiple access points for visitors.
In 2023, the Friends of Porter Valley completed a major restoration project, removing 5000 square meters of silt from the historic dam pond.
