Former Bristol and West Building, Office tower in Bristol, England
The Former Bristol and West Building is a 61-meter office tower with 17 floors located on Marsh Street. Its blue-tinted glass panels create a visual effect that seems to blend with the sky.
Built in 1967 as the headquarters for Bristol and West, the structure originally had a pre-cast concrete exterior with granite chips. Extensive renovations between 2006 and 2009 fundamentally transformed its appearance and function.
The building reflects post-war modernist design that reshaped Bristol's center after World War II damage. Its presence continues to define how people perceive the city's rebuilt downtown area.
The building is easily accessible and now contains a hotel with rooms, residential apartments, and retail spaces in a central location. You can view the architecture from the street and explore the surrounding downtown area.
In the early 2000s, proposals existed for a 23-story replacement building, but planners chose to preserve the original structure instead. This decision allowed the building to retain its place in Bristol's architectural history.
