Goldie Boathouse, Grade II listed boathouse in Cambridge, England
Goldie Boathouse is a Grade II listed building along the River Cam that serves as a complete training facility for rowers. It contains a gymnasium, rowing machines, weight training equipment, and indoor tanks for practice throughout the year.
The boathouse was founded in 1882 and named after J.H.D. Goldie, a CUBC president who won several races against Oxford in the early 1870s. This successful rower's accomplishments became part of the club's identity and legacy.
This is the home base of Cambridge University Boat Club, where rowers gather to train and prepare for races. The space brings together athletes and coaches who work together to keep the university's rowing tradition alive.
The facility is about a ten-minute walk from Cambridge city center and easy to reach from the town. Keep in mind that this is an active training space, so visiting hours for the public may be limited.
The original boat storage area was transformed into a modern gymnasium while keeping the historic architecture and protected status intact. This adaptation shows how historic spaces can be repurposed for contemporary use without losing their character.
