South Bank Tower, Residential skyscraper in South Bank, London, United Kingdom
South Bank Tower is a 41-story residential building rising above 150 meters along the Thames, combining apartments, offices, and retail shops in a single structure. The building occupies a prominent position in the riverfront landscape and forms part of the wider South Bank district's architecture.
The building first rose in 1972 as King's Reach Tower under a different design and purpose. A major renovation starting in 2015 transformed it completely, adding 11 new floors and extending its height to its present size.
This riverside landmark sits where London's publishing world once thrived, and its presence now shapes how people experience this revitalized district. The surrounding neighborhood reflects how creative industries have given way to residential living, changing the rhythm and character of the area.
The building sits at 55 Upper Ground in SE1 and connects easily to public transportation networks. Its location provides direct access to riverside paths and makes exploring the surrounding cultural district straightforward.
During renovation, 11 new floors were added on top of the existing structure while people continued living and working in the lower levels. This construction approach allowed the building to stay occupied throughout the entire transformation process.
