Mermaid Tavern, Literary meeting place in Cheapside, London, England

The Mermaid Tavern stood at the intersection of Friday Street and Bread Street, featuring multiple entrances to accommodate its regular patrons.

The establishment operated from the early 15th century until 1666, when the Great Fire of London destroyed the building along with many others.

Members of the Fraternity of Sireniacal Gentlemen gathered monthly at the tavern, including writers Ben Jonson, John Donne, and Francis Beaumont.

Modern visitors can locate the former site of the Mermaid Tavern at the corner of Bread Street and Cannon Street in central London.

The Star Chamber conducted trials regarding disturbances caused by the Damned Crew, a group of unruly patrons who frequented the tavern.
