Minera Lead Mines

Minera Lead Mines is a former mining complex in Wrexham County Borough that contains industrial remains spanning several centuries of extraction activity. Scattered across the site are old engine houses, visible mine shafts, limestone features, and waste heaps that show the scale of past operations.

Lead extraction at this location dates back to the time of Edward I, though the site developed significantly over subsequent centuries. Most of the visible structures were built between the 17th and 19th centuries when mining operations reached their peak.

The site speaks of industrial life through its remaining buildings and structures that shape how visitors move through the landscape. These structures show how mining communities organized their daily work and survival.

The site has marked paths that guide visitors through different sections of the mining remains. Wear sturdy shoes as the ground is uneven in places and some areas require careful footing.

Visitors can see three lime kilns that operated at Minera Mill in 1620, showing that the area had already expanded into other industries. These kilns produced burnt lime for construction and farming, marking an early shift beyond simple lead extraction.
