Notgrove Long Barrow, Neolithic burial mound in Gloucestershire, England.

Notgrove Long Barrow is a Neolithic burial mound with an elongated form measuring about 46 meters long and 30 meters wide, featuring a central passage and several side chambers. The interior is built of stone and contains multiple spaces that were designed for burials.

The mound was built during the Neolithic period and covered an older dome-shaped chamber that already held two human burials. Excavations between 1881 and 1934-1935 uncovered these earlier structures and artifacts from that early time.

The site served as a place for Neolithic burial rituals and community gatherings, with the eastern side featuring a stone-lined forecourt area. People came here to lay their dead to rest and participate in shared ceremonial practices.

The monument sits near the A40 road with a small parking area and information signs at the entrance. Access is freely available, and visitors should wear sturdy shoes as the ground can be uneven.

A surprising discovery was an intact calf skeleton found within the inner chambers lying alongside human remains. Along with pottery and stone tools, this reveals that animals played a role in the burial rituals.
