Pakenham Windmill, Grade II* listed tower windmill in Pakenham, England.
Pakenham Windmill is a five-storey tower mill with four patent sails and a fantail mechanism that adjusts automatically to the wind direction. The building contains internal machinery with multiple millstones for grain processing.
The mill was built in 1831 and came into the Bryant family's ownership in 1885, who continued the milling tradition. A steam engine was later added as backup power to support production.
The mill appears in several film and television productions, including a 1938 short film and a 1977 series episode. It has become a recognizable location for period productions.
The building can be viewed from the outside and offers insight into the working milling mechanisms. Visitors should be prepared for uneven floors and narrow stairs inside.
Inside are three pairs of millstones, with two still operational and using chain-driven governors instead of conventional belts. This system is unusual for windmills of this period.
