Pennine Centre, offices in Sheffield, England
The Pennine Centre is a modernist building on Tenter Street in Sheffield, composed of five connected blocks forming a unified complex. At approximately 50 meters tall with 13 floors, it defines the skyline with its rectangular shape and large glass windows.
Construction began in 1973 and finished in 1975, originally built as a regional office building for HSBC. After the bank relocated in 2019, RBH Properties acquired the building and has been undergoing comprehensive renovation to create modern offices and commercial spaces.
The Pennine Centre displays the International style of the 1970s, with clean lines and functional design typical of that period. Its architecture shows how buildings were created then with a focus on efficiency and straightforward purpose, without unnecessary ornamentation.
The building sits between Tenter Street and Silver Street Head, centrally located and easily reached on foot from many parts of the city. A large underground car park with four levels and space for about 457 vehicles makes visiting convenient for both visitors and workers.
The renovation project plans to partially demolish Block Four to create a new public square with cafes and seating areas. This transformation aims to bring life to the area and change the building from a pure office complex into a community gathering place.
