Queen's Wood, Ancient woodland in Haringey, England.
Queen's Wood is an ancient woodland in Haringey with winding paths that run beneath a dense canopy of oak and hornbeam trees. The forest contains open clearings scattered among the trees and supports a variety of wildlife habitats throughout its area.
The woodland appears in the Domesday Book and was purchased from the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in 1898. It received its name in honor of Queen Victoria at the time of its public opening.
Local volunteers run guided walks and nature talks throughout the year, helping visitors understand the trees and wildlife they encounter. The place serves as a gathering point where people connect with each other over their shared interest in the woodland.
The woodland is open 24 hours daily and sits between East Finchley and Muswell Hill for easy access. Information boards line the paths and a cafe provides refreshments for visitors during their time there.
The woodland is the source of the Moselle River and is home to over 100 spider species and a nationally rare beetle. This abundance of life makes it a surprisingly rich habitat within the urban area.
