Reading Bridge, Road bridge in Reading, England
Reading Bridge spans across the River Thames, connecting central Reading on the south bank with Lower Caversham on the north bank through reinforced concrete arches.
The bridge opened in 1923 as a replacement for a narrow footbridge, establishing a record as the longest reinforced concrete span in the United Kingdom at that time.
The bridge represents a crucial element of Reading's transportation network, linking two distinct communities and facilitating daily interactions between residents on both sides of the Thames.
The structure accommodates 24,000 vehicles daily across its 40-foot wide deck, which includes designated pathways for pedestrians alongside the main carriageway.
Recent reinforcement work incorporated modern engineering techniques, including foam concrete filling and carbon fiber plate applications to strengthen the original 1923 structure.
