Round Foundry, Industrial heritage building in Holbeck, Leeds, England.
The Round Foundry is a red brick industrial complex in Leeds featuring large arched windows and seven preserved structures spread across the site. Each building, including the Dry Sand Foundry and Green Sand Foundry, reflects the arrangement and scale of historic metal casting operations.
It was founded in 1795 as a manufacturing facility for steam engines and locomotives supplied to the Middleton Railway. The site became an important hub in early railway development during the Industrial Revolution.
Today it serves as a creative hub where digital professionals and media workers gather in spaces shaped by industrial production. The transformation reflects how cities preserve working sites by adapting them for new generations and industries.
The site now contains restaurants, cafes, and office spaces with good public transportation connections to central Leeds. You can walk through the grounds freely and observe the different buildings and their architectural details at your own pace.
The Salamanca locomotive was engineered and built inside the Engine House, a building that now hosts a cafe and offices. This blending of production history with contemporary use makes the space particularly unusual.
