Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, Military museum in Caernarfon Castle, Wales
The Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum is housed in two towers of Caernarfon Castle and displays material spanning three centuries of a Welsh infantry regiment. The collection includes uniforms, weapons, medals, and official documents that trace the unit's military history.
The regiment was founded in the 17th century and fought in major conflicts from the American War of Independence through both World Wars. The collection traces this long succession of military operations and how the unit evolved over generations.
The collection displays personal letters and diaries from soldiers who served in this regiment across different wars. These documents reveal what daily life and combat felt like from the perspective of ordinary troops.
Museum entry is included with castle admission and the galleries are located within the castle's tower rooms. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended as you will need to climb stairs within the historic towers.
The collection holds fourteen Victoria Crosses, which represent the highest award for bravery in the British military. These rare decorations belonged to soldiers who showed extraordinary courage under extreme circumstances.
