St Andrew Undershaft, Gothic church building in City of London, United Kingdom.
St Andrew Undershaft stands at the intersection of St Mary Axe and Leadenhall Street, featuring vertical lines and ornate window designs in Perpendicular Gothic style.
The current structure, dating from 1532, survived both the Great Fire of London in 1666 and the German bombing raids during World War II.
The church contains a monument to John Stow, the author of Survey of London, whose quill is ceremonially replaced every three years by the Merchant Taylor Company.
The church building remains under the administration of St Helen's Bishopsgate, requiring advance arrangements through their office for visits and guided tours.
The name Undershaft derives from a maypole that stood taller than the church tower until 1517, when student riots led to its removal.
