The Scalpel, Office skyscraper in City of London, United Kingdom.
The Scalpel is a modern office tower in the City of London with 38 floors rising approximately 190 meters high. Its glass facade features bold angular lines that create a distinctive geometric profile at its Lime Street location.
Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates designed this office tower, which opened in 2018 after construction began in 2013. The building replaced the former Lloyd's trading facility that once occupied this site.
The building holds four stone relief panels representing earth, air, fire, and water, salvaged from the earlier Lloyd's structure on the site. These artworks connect the place's past with its present-day role.
The building houses extensive office space with modern facilities for companies of various sizes. Visitors should note this is a private commercial building, so public access is limited to common areas.
The building was specifically designed to create large uninterrupted floor spaces without columns dividing the rooms, making it particularly suited for financial firms. Its offset core also preserves clear sightlines to St Paul's Cathedral from various points throughout the tower.
