Shover's Green Baptist Chapel, Baptist chapel in Shover's Green, England
Shover's Green Baptist Chapel is a single-story building in Wadhurst featuring three round-headed windows with wooden shutters and a slate-tiled hipped roof. The structure combines timber-frame construction with brick cladding to create a modest rural chapel design.
The chapel opened in 1817 following the establishment of a new congregation by members from Providence Chapel in Burwash two years prior. This rural place of worship served its community for more than 150 years before closing.
During the religious census of 1851, the chapel recorded substantial attendance numbers with 205 morning worshippers, 386 in afternoon services, and 87 evening participants.
The chapel sits west of Ticehurst along the road connecting Wadhurst and Ticehurst, making it accessible by local routes. The building is no longer active as a place of worship, so visitors should check local conditions before planning a visit.
The building underwent major renovation in 1876 when its original wooden exterior was replaced with brick cladding. This transformation gave the chapel its present appearance while extending its use for many more decades.
