HMS M33, Naval monitor ship and museum at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, England.
HMS M33 is a warship preserved in Portsmouth that is now open to visitors as a museum. The roughly 54-meter-long monitor carried two large guns and had a shallow hull designed for operations close to shore.
The ship was built in 1915 and supported British troops during the Gallipoli Campaign in World War I. Later it served in Russian waters when the Allies intervened in Russia after the war.
The ship shows how the Navy used military technology and engineering skill during World War I. Visitors can see how sailors worked in tight spaces and operated the heavy equipment.
The ship is reached through Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, where visitors can join guided tours. It is wise to wear sturdy shoes since the stairs onboard are steep and narrow.
The ship is one of only three surviving naval vessels from that era and the sole Allied ship from the Gallipoli Campaign. This rarity makes it a valuable record of early naval operations during the war.
