Renishaw Hall, Country house and garden museum in Eckington, England.
Renishaw Hall is a three-story stone mansion from the 17th century in Eckington, England, now open as a house museum surrounded by formal gardens. Two symmetrical wings frame the central building, with large mullioned windows running along the facade in a classical arrangement.
The Sitwell family built the house in 1625 and lived there for generations into the 20th century. Edwin Lutyens added architectural touches in the early 1900s that gave the estate new design details.
Rooms throughout the building hold furniture and paintings that show how an English aristocratic family lived and decorated their home over four hundred years. The collections tell the story of the Sitwell family through objects visitors can see during their tour.
Guided tours of the interior run from April to September, while the gardens and cafe stay open Tuesday to Sunday during that period. Visitors should plan several hours to explore both the house and the grounds, as each area can be visited separately.
The gardens are divided into separate outdoor rooms, each with its own planting style that shifts as the seasons change. Every room has a different character and can be discovered one after another while walking through the grounds.
