St Peter's Church, Leckhampton, Medieval parish church in Shurdington, United Kingdom.
St Peter's Church is a stone building with a prominent spire, standing at the base of Leckhampton Hill near Cheltenham. The structure includes a nave, chancel, south aisle, and features an organ built in 1936 plus eight bells inside.
The original structure dates from the 14th century, commissioned by Sir John Giffard, Lord of the Manor of Leckhampton. Historical records indicate that an earlier church had existed at this location from 1162 onwards.
The church serves as the focal point of the village and draws visitors interested in traditional Anglican architecture and the quiet setting of the churchyard. It reflects the community's deep connection to its local roots.
The building sits at the base of Leckhampton Hill, making it easy to locate while exploring the area. The churchyard surrounding it is open to visitors and invites quiet walks among the gravestones.
The churchyard contains a memorial to Dr Edward Wilson, who died during Scott's Antarctic expedition. Additional gravestones commemorate eleven service personnel who fell in the two World Wars, connecting the village to distant history.
