St Andrew's Church, Wanborough

St Andrew's Church, Wanborough, Medieval church in Wanborough, England.

St Andrew's Church is a stone building on elevated ground at Upper Wanborough, featuring a four-bay nave with side aisles and porches on both north and south sides. The structure includes a western tower and a central spire rising above the main body of the church.

The church was originally granted to the Chapter of Salisbury by Saint Osmund in 1091. Later, it came under the control of Amesbury Priory in the 14th century.

The north wall near the entrance displays a medieval painting showing Christ's Entry into Jerusalem, which was found during 1887 renovations inside the building. This fresco reveals the artistic decoration that once adorned the place of worship.

The church sits on a hillside location in Upper Wanborough surrounded by countryside, so visitors should plan transportation accordingly and dress for outdoor walking. Check opening times before visiting, as access may be limited depending on service schedules.

The building features an uncommon combination of a western tower and a central spire, a design found in only three churches across England. This dual structure makes it a rare example of medieval church architecture.
