St Mary on Woodbridge Road stands as a large brick structure serving Catholic worshippers across northeast Ipswich and neighboring communities.
French priest Abbé Louis Pierre Simon established the church after fleeing the French Revolution, starting with a small chapel dedicated to St Anthony in 1827.
The congregation includes over 900 weekly attendees, making it the largest Catholic assembly in Ipswich and second largest in Suffolk.
The church maintains regular opening hours from Monday through Saturday between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, except during scheduled ceremonies.
The original chapel walls remain within the current parish hall, marking the location of the first post-reformation Catholic church in Ipswich.
