Blue House, Frome

The Blue House is a substantial stone building on Market Place in Frome with two decorative statues adorning its front facade. It rises several stories with traditional sash windows and currently functions as a residential building divided into separate apartments.

The building dates to the early 18th century and replaced an earlier charitable residence that had occupied the site for more than two centuries. This long history of social provision continues to shape the location.

The facade displays two statues that represent the different groups who lived and studied within these walls over the centuries. These figures remain visible reminders of how the building once served multiple purposes for the community.

The building is easily visible from the street and located centrally at Market Place near the bridge in Frome's town center. Visitors can view the exterior statues and architecture at any time, though it remains private residential accommodation.

The two statues on the facade have been given local names passed down through generations, with residents affectionately referring to them as representing a boy and a woman from the building's past. This personal connection makes the figures part of Frome's local storytelling heritage.
