St Mary and St Nicolas

St Mary and St Nicolas is a church in Spalding featuring a cruciform layout with six bays in the aisled nave and two-bay transepts. The bell tower anchors the structure, and the building received a new stone floor and relocated main entrance in 2013 to improve visitor access.

Construction of the current structure began in 1284 under Prior William of Littleport, replacing an earlier building located near Spalding Priory. This founding moment established the site's role as a center for religious life in the area.

The interior preserves pieces of medieval craftsmanship, particularly in the reconstructed rood screen made from original materials of the period. Walking through the church, visitors encounter these tangible connections to the past woven into the structure itself.
