St Michael and All Angels Church, Hawkshead

St Michael and All Angels Church is a medieval parish church in Hawkshead featuring English Gothic elements such as round pier arcades and a raised nave. The square tower ends in battlements and pinnacles, while the interior contains north and south aisles that extend the original structure.

The church began as a small 12th-century chapel that underwent significant growth over the centuries. Major renovations occurred around 1300, followed by the completion of the side aisles by 1500.

William Wordsworth attended services here during his school years and later referenced the church in his famous poem The Prelude. Visitors can still sense the literary connection that made this modest village place part of English cultural history.
