Charing Windmill

Charing Windmill is an eight-sided wooden structure with dark timber weatherboarding and a brick base rising across multiple floors. The building was designed to function as a working mill and still shows traces of its original mechanical equipment.

The structure was built in the early 1800s and operated as a mill until 1891. After ceasing operations, its sails were removed in 1917, and the building was later converted into living quarters.

The building shows how people in this region once harnessed wind power for milling, with engineering details that reflect local craftsmanship traditions. Visitors can understand the practical skill involved in creating and maintaining such structures by observing the construction methods.
