Stapleford Miniature Railway

The Stapleford Miniature Railway is a rideable miniature railway in Stapleford Park that stretches for nearly two miles through parkland. It crosses the River Eye via bridges and features a tunnel section approximately 80 meters long.

The railway began in 1958 as a transport line connecting the car park to Lord Gretton's residence. Growing visitor numbers prompted expansion over the following years into the popular attraction it is today.

The place gained fame after appearing in a 1965 episode of The Avengers television series and continues to serve as a filming location for productions seeking an authentic English countryside setting.

The railway is open to visitors during specific times of the year, particularly during summer weekends. Wearing comfortable shoes is advisable since you may need to walk through the park to reach the station.

Students from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers regularly use this location for their Railway Challenge, where they design and test innovative locomotive concepts. These events blend historic infrastructure with cutting-edge student engineering.
