Church of the Holy Ghost, Midsomer Norton

The Church of the Holy Ghost is a converted 15th-century tithe barn along High Street with a timber roof and gothic windows. The structure was adapted into a Catholic church in 1913 while maintaining its original architectural features.

The building was originally built in the 15th century as a tithe barn for the Augustinian Canons at Merton Priory. Its conversion to a Catholic church took place in 1913, marking a significant change in its purpose and community role.

Inside you will find an ornate wooden tabernacle from 1794, which once belonged to the Bavarian Embassy Chapel in London. The walls display 18th-century Flemish Stations of the Cross that add to the interior character.

You can visit during Sunday services and weekday Mass times. The church sits directly on High Street, making it easy to find and access when exploring the town center.

Benedictine monks from Downside Abbey oversee and maintain this building from a nearby location. It ranks among the oldest surviving structures in the entire settlement, making it an important part of the town's physical heritage.
