Durham University Observatory
Durham University Observatory, Astronomical observatory at Potters Bank, Durham, England.
The observatory contains four rooftop telescopes named DRACO2, East-14, Far-East-16, and West-14, situated on the Department of Physics building for astronomical research.
The observatory, constructed in 1840 under architect Anthony Salvin's direction, stands as a Grade II listed building with early contributions from Temple Chevallier.
The facility engages students in observational astronomy projects, enabling them to track asteroids and measure cosmic phenomena through dedicated telescope systems.
The observatory operates through Python-controlled Fedora workstations, allowing remote access and robotic operations for efficient data collection throughout observation sessions.
Since its establishment, the observatory has collected over one million CCD images, documenting more than 300 different minor planets and comets.
