Styford Bridge, Highway bridge in Northumberland, England
Styford Bridge is a road crossing over the River Tyne near Riding Mill in Northumberland. The structure uses three concrete spans to carry the A68 across the river through open countryside.
Construction took place from 1977 to 1979 to improve traffic flow between the A68 and A69 roads. Opening in 1979 provided a direct route that bypassed the village of Corbridge entirely.
The Duke of Northumberland presided over the bridge opening ceremony on October 10, 1979, marking a milestone in regional infrastructure development.
The bridge connects the A68 and A69 roads, allowing direct passage over the river while bypassing Corbridge. Visitors can view the river from pulloffs along the roadside if they pause while traveling through the area.
In 1990 a Royal Air Force Tornado aircraft grazed the bridge area following a mid-air collision with another military plane. The incident left minor surface marks but caused no structural damage to the crossing.
