Tilstone Lodge

Tilstone Lodge is a two-story country residence in the Tilstone Fearnall area with a main block containing three bays and sash windows. The structure combines stuccoed brick walls with stone dressings and features a service wing that reflects the typical layout of a rural estate house.

The house was built between 1821 and 1825 according to designs by architect Thomas Harrison for Admiral John Tollemache. This period marked a time when English country estates were reassessing classical architectural principles in their designs.

The name derives from the nearby Tilstone area and the term Lodge for a smaller country residence. The building reflects the expectations of wealthy households, with its classical details showcasing social standing and refined taste.

The Grade II listed status protects the building's original features, and any modifications require specific approvals. Keep in mind this is a private property, so access from public areas may be limited or not available.

The property features a late 19th-century orangery and an ice house that reveal how wealthy households managed gardens and food storage. These outbuildings offer a window into the practical methods used before modern refrigeration existed.
