The Queen's Royal Lancers and Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Museum, Military museum in Perlethorpe, United Kingdom.
The Queen's Royal Lancers and Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Museum is an independent military museum housed in Thoresby Court Yard, within Thoresby Park in Perlethorpe, Nottinghamshire. The collection covers around three centuries of cavalry history through uniforms, weapons, documents, and photographs belonging to these two regiments.
The collection was originally housed at Belvoir Castle before moving to Thoresby Hall in 2011, with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The two regiments it covers trace their origins back to the late 1600s, making the collection span a long period of British military history.
The museum sits inside Thoresby Court Yard, a setting that gives the visit a sense of stepping into another era. The displays focus on personal objects and soldier accounts, making the history feel close and human rather than distant.
The museum is inside Thoresby Park, which is a rural area, so arriving by car is the most straightforward option. Toilets are available on site, and the setting within the park means it is easy to combine the visit with a walk in the surrounding grounds.
Among the objects on display is a bugle that was sounded during the Charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimean War. That single charge, which took place in 1854, became one of the most debated episodes in British military history, and the instrument here is one of the few surviving physical links to it.
