Manchester Racecourse, Horse racing venue at Castle Irwell, Pendleton, England.
Manchester Racecourse was a horse racing venue located at Castle Irwell in Pendleton with a right-handed track measuring approximately one mile. The facility featured a grandstand designed to hold more than 1000 spectators during racing events.
The venue operated from 1847 to 1963 as a horse racing destination in the Manchester area. During its existence it relocated several times before closing for good at its final location.
Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her first victory as an owner at Manchester Racecourse in June 1952, marking a royal connection to the venue.
The site is no longer operational as a racing venue and cannot be visited for events. Today the grounds serve a different purpose and are not accessible to the public in their historic form.
The venue retained the Manchester name throughout its history despite relocating multiple times to different locations around the region. This curious mismatch between its name and actual position shifted several times during its operational years.
