Old Brewery Quarter, Entertainment complex in central Cardiff, Wales
The Old Brewery Quarter is an entertainment and residential complex in central Cardiff with restaurants, bars, and apartment-style homes arranged around an open piazza. The space spans across major streets and mixes old industrial character with modern shops, offices, and living areas.
This site operated as a brewery from 1713 onwards, and Samuel Arthur Brain acquired it in 1882 to continue production there. Brewing operations moved to larger facilities in 1999, which freed the land for redevelopment.
This space reflects its brewing past through architectural elements like the original 1887 clock that still marks time for visitors walking through. The preserved features tell a story about craftsmanship and trade that once defined this corner of the city.
The quarter sits in the heart of the city and is easy to walk through, with multiple entry points from surrounding streets. Open spaces let you stroll, stop for a meal or drink, and get a feel for how the area flows throughout the day.
Within the complex sits Alcotraz, a prison-themed bar where visitors can experience an immersive and unusual setting. This specialized venue creates a memorable experience that stands apart from ordinary dining and drinking spots.
