The Van Alen Building is a modern residential complex on Brighton's seafront consisting of three connected blocks with curved lines and expansive glazed areas. The nautical-inspired window design creates a distinctive appearance that responds to the waterfront setting.
Construction started in 1999 on the site of a former petrol station after receiving necessary approvals. This represented a transformation of industrial land into residential use along the waterfront.
The residential development attracted notable residents, including former Spice Girls member Emma Bunton who purchased one of the penthouses in 2001.
The building sits directly on Marine Parade, making it easily accessible on foot from the city center and seafront attractions. The location provides convenient access to public transportation and local facilities.
A 2003 incident involved a fire in one penthouse, with investigators suggesting a seagull dropping a cigarette as the potential cause.
