Pollokshields Burgh Hall, Category A listed municipal building in Glasgow, Scotland
Pollokshields Burgh Hall is a municipal building constructed from dark red sandstone, positioned at the edge of Maxwell Park. The structure displays Scottish Baronial architectural features including an asymmetrical facade, gabled porch, and round-headed entrance.
Sir John Stirling Maxwell commissioned the building in 1890 as a community gift and donation. It later served as headquarters for the Pollokshields Burgh Council until Glasgow absorbed the area into the city.
The hall serves as a gathering space where locals and visitors experience art exhibitions, live music, and dance events throughout the year. It functions as a social hub that brings the community together for shared cultural moments.
The building contains two self-contained apartments available for overnight stays, each accommodating up to four guests comfortably. Event spaces within can be reserved in advance for weddings and community functions.
Architect Henry Edward Clifford designed the distinctive asymmetrical front facade with its defining gabled porch element. This intentional architectural imbalance sets the building apart from conventional town halls of the period.
