Whittington Hall, English country house in Whittington, United Kingdom.
Whittington Hall is a sandstone country house in Whittington featuring Jacobethan architectural elements visible throughout its exterior. The building showcases a battlemented tower with an octagonal corner turret and holds Grade II* listed status.
Thomas Greene commissioned architect George Webster to construct the hall between 1831 and 1836, replacing an earlier structure on the same site. Architects Paley and Austin later modified it significantly in 1887, adding a billiard room and garden loggia.
The Lancaster architects Paley and Austin modified the building in 1887 by adding a billiard room, an additional staircase, and a garden loggia.
The house sits roughly three kilometers south of Kirkby Lonsdale near Whittington in a rural setting. Planning ahead for transport is wise as it is not easily accessible by walking from nearby towns or villages.
The interior spaces underwent Georgian style modifications during the 1930s, creating an interesting contrast with the exterior's historical character. This interior redesign shows how country houses of this era blended older styles with contemporary tastes.
