Sence Valley Forest Park, Forest park in North West Leicestershire, England.
Sence Valley Forest Park is a wooded landscape with lakes and meadows covering 60 hectares in North West Leicestershire. A network of walking and cycling paths connects different areas, allowing visitors to explore woodlands, open water, and grassland throughout the site.
The site was an active coal mine until 1996, when extraction operations ceased. The abandoned landscape was then gradually reclaimed and developed into the public forest park that stands today.
The park serves as a gathering place for schools and local organizations that helped restore the landscape. Today it functions as a space where people connect with nature and learn about environmental renewal in the community.
The park offers parking areas and accessible walking paths throughout the site. Facilities include toilets and a cafe that operates several days each week, making it convenient for visitors to spend several hours exploring.
The park is home to numerous bird species throughout the year, with a specially constructed nesting wall built into the landscape. This artificial structure near one of the lakes attracts sand martins and offers visitors an opportunity to observe their nesting behavior up close.
